New Chilean Consulate in the Andean Region: Benefits and Expectations

Share

Thanks to joint efforts by the municipalities of Trevelin and Futaleufú, the installation of a Chilean consulate in the Andean region of Chubut has been approved to meet the needs of the large Chilean population residing in the area.

Trevelin’s mayor, Héctor Ingram, received the news this Saturday of the approval by the Chilean government to reinstate a consulate in the region. The confirmation came from Santiago, where the mayor of Futaleufú, Alejandro Avello Bascur, informed Ingram that the Director General of Consular Affairs, Immigration, and Chileans Abroad, Marta Bonett, had officially announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed the Chilean Embassy in Argentina to begin the process of installing an Honorary Consul in Esquel, a key city for administrative and official services in the region.

This installation will bring advantages such as the facilitation of consular and immigration procedures. The proximity of a consulate in Esquel will allow Chilean residents to carry out their procedures more quickly and efficiently, avoiding long trips.

Another advantage is the strengthening of binational ties. The presence of the consulate reinforces diplomatic relations between Argentina and Chile, promoting greater cooperation and mutual understanding.

An economic and tourism boost is also expected. The installation of the consulate has the potential to attract more visitors and businesses to the region, stimulating the local economy.

Additionally, there will be better access to essential services for residents of Trevelin and the surrounding areas, who will have more direct access to consular services, improving their quality of life.
